I am from the European Military Historical Society. The best way to get vets to talk is not by asking.
Since they have been treated badly for over 50 years, they will mostly talk to those they have created a relantioship.
You can do this by visiting Livign History Displays, Reenactments and such.
It is my experience that they will only chat with you if you intent is to listen and tell their story from their point of view.
